Case study · Slowe Group

66 scattered web assets brought under one account

The group’s domains, mailboxes and websites sat in at least five provider accounts. Two domains had expired and three websites were broken. We listed everything within three days, moved it all under one owner account, rebuilt six websites on one platform and moved the group’s app on its own, keeping the app working.

The situation

The group runs an events business, a festival, a fashion-tech app, an energy firm and a trading company. Each had grown its own domains, email and websites.

They sat in at least five provider accounts. Nobody had one list of what the group owned or when each item renewed.

Two domains had already expired, and three of the eight websites were broken, one of them for more than a year.

What we did

Run

Find everything and put it in one place

When domains sit in many accounts, one missed renewal can take email and a website down with it. One register and one owner account stop that.

  • Listed every domain, hosting plan and mailbox, with its cost and renewal date, three days after we got access. We had promised ten.
  • Flagged the two expired domains the same day.
  • Moved 29 domains to one account and put every login under one owner email address.
  • Look after renewals for the year, with alerts well before each one is due.

Run

Move email without losing it

Staff need the same address, and their old mail, on the first morning after the move.

  • Moved 29 mailboxes to Zoho, including the group’s Microsoft 365 mailboxes and those of two sister businesses.
  • Carried old mail across and gave each person sign-in steps for phone, laptop and browser.
  • Closed one unused mailbox only after copying its mail to a shared inbox.

Build

Rebuild the websites

Old websites break, slow down and become easy to attack. One maintained platform is cheaper to keep safe.

  • Rebuilt six sites on one modern platform, for the trading firm, the energy firm, a US affiliate, an arts magazine, the events company and the festival.
  • Brought back three broken sites, one of which had shown a database error since at least December 2024.
  • Rescued about 60 magazine articles and every image from a site that would no longer open.
  • Cut image weight by half and ran 765 automated checks before launch.

Advisory

Protect the app

An app can depend on a website in ways nobody wrote down. Moving the wrong thing can switch the app off.

  • Found that one of the “websites” was the engine of a live fashion app with over 9,000 user accounts.
  • Kept it out of the main move, because the iPhone app loads its pages from that address.
  • Moved the app’s backend to its own hosting for better performance, keeping the technology it runs on, and moved its 10 mailboxes.

Results

  • One owner account for 29 domains, 29 mailboxes and 8 websites, down from at least five provider accounts.
  • Yearly renewal costs 21% lower: domains 17%, hosting 18% and email 53%.
  • Six sites rebuilt on one platform, three of them brought back from errors.
  • The app’s users kept their service through the website rebuild.
