Zoho vs ERPNext in Nigeria: Which Should Your Business Choose? (2026)

Choose ERPNext if you hold stock, manufacture, run several branches or want payroll in the same system. The software is free and open source. You pay for hosting, setup and support, with no fee per user. Choose Zoho Books if you are a sales- or service-led business that wants a quick subscription start. Its Nigeria edition is priced in naira, from a Free plan to ₦99,600 per organisation per month. Both can send invoices to the NRS through an accredited provider.

The price ranges here are typical market prices across Nigerian providers, from public price lists and our own experience of the market. They are a guide, not our quote. Our own prices are on our service pages, and you get a fixed price before we start. Prices last checked 14 October 2026.

The short answer: which one fits your business?

We implement both, and we are an Authorised Zoho Partner. We tell you which one we would choose, and why. The deciding questions are how much stock you manage, how many people need to log in, whether payroll must sit in the same system, and where you want the data held.

  • ERPNext fits distributors, retailers with several branches, manufacturers, schools and any business with many users. Stock, production, HR and payroll are all in one open-source system, and adding users adds no licence fee.
  • Zoho Books fits professional services, agencies, consultancies and small traders with a handful of users who mainly need invoicing, expenses, VAT and bank reconciliation. It is quick to set up and runs on Zoho’s cloud.
  • Zoho One fits sales-led teams that want CRM, books, email and helpdesk from one vendor, priced per user. It costs more as the team grows.

What each one costs to run

Zoho Books, Nigeria edition (Zoho’s published naira prices, per organisation per month, billed annually, before VAT; checked 14 October 2026):

PlanPriceUsersNote
Free₦01 user + 1 accountantOnly while yearly revenue stays under Zoho’s US$50,000 limit
Standard₦3,6003 usersIncludes e-invoicing
Professional₦7,6005 usersAdds inventory tracking
Premium₦11,60010 users
Elite₦51,60010 usersAdds warehouses
Ultimate₦99,60015 users

Monthly billing costs more than annual. Zoho One is priced per user per month in US dollars, and the figure Zoho shows depends on your region, so ask for a written quote rather than converting a dollar price.

ERPNext has no licence fee. Frappe publishes hosting on Frappe Cloud from US$5 a month for a single site, with dedicated servers costing more. You can instead run it on a cloud server in your company’s name.

Implementation is the larger cost on either platform. Our ERP cost guide puts an open-source SME implementation in Nigeria at ₦800,000 – ₦4,000,000 as a one-off project, with annual support of ₦300,000 – ₦700,000/yr. Those are market ranges. Every client of ours gets a fixed price before we start, after a scoping call.

Payroll, PAYE and pension

This is where the two differ most for Nigerian firms. ERPNext’s HR and payroll app, Frappe HR, is free and lets us enter income tax slabs with an effective date, plus salary components for pension and other deductions. It has no ready-made Nigerian setup. We enter the current PAYE bands and pension deductions and check the first payslips against your payroll adviser’s figures.

Zoho Books does not run payroll, and Zoho Payroll lists editions for the GCC, Canada, India and the USA, not Nigeria. Zoho users in Nigeria usually keep payroll in a separate tool or with a payroll bureau.

NRS e-invoicing on each platform

Neither platform connects to the NRS on its own. Under the NRS model, businesses connect through accredited system integrators and access point providers. Zoho Books’ Nigeria edition has this built in through Remita. ERPNext connects through a connector app or an integration with your chosen provider. Our e-invoicing guide explains the dates and what has to be set up, including a section on ERPNext.

How we decide for a client

Our ERP Solution starts with a short paid Scoping Sprint that ends with our recommendation of ERPNext or Zoho, the running cost of each, and a fixed quote. We go live on two or three modules first, usually invoicing, inventory and payroll, then add the rest.

For an example, read our ERPNext case study for a media training school: courses, admissions and fees in one ERPNext system, with students enrolled the moment their payment clears.

Frequently asked questions

For a service business with a few users that mainly needs invoicing, expenses and VAT, Zoho Books is usually the quicker and cheaper start. For a business that holds stock, manufactures, runs several branches or warehouses, or wants payroll in the same system, ERPNext usually fits better because it does all of that with no per-user licence.
The software is free and open source (GPL-3.0), with no per-user fee. You still pay for hosting, implementation and support. Frappe Cloud hosting starts from US$5 a month for a single site, or you can host it on a server in your company’s name.
Zoho publishes naira prices for its Nigeria edition. As checked on 14 October 2026, plans run from a Free plan to ₦99,600 per organisation per month billed annually, with Standard at ₦3,600 for 3 users. Prices exclude VAT. Zoho One, the full suite, is priced per user in US dollars.
Both have a route. Zoho Books’ Nigeria edition sends invoices to the NRS e-invoicing portal through Remita, an accredited access point provider. ERPNext connects through an accredited system integrator or access point provider, using a connector app or an integration built for your provider.
Not out of the box. ERPNext’s payroll (the free Frappe HR app) has configurable income tax slabs and salary components, so PAYE bands and pension deductions are set up during implementation and checked against your payroll adviser’s figures. Zoho Books does not run payroll, and Zoho Payroll does not list a Nigeria edition.
A focused rollout of 3–5 modules typically takes 8–16 weeks on either platform. Zoho Books on its own is usually quicker because there is less to configure. In both cases the most common delay is cleaning old data from spreadsheets.
Yes. Customers, suppliers, items and opening balances can be exported and loaded into ERPNext. Moving full transaction history takes more work, so most firms move opening balances at a year end and keep the old system for reference.
