Acer just made the MacBook Air look heavy. The company has unveiled the Swift Air 16, a featherweight 16-inch laptop that tips the scales at only 2.18 pounds (0.99kg). That makes it not only one of the lightest laptops in its class but also lighter than Apple’s new 15-inch MacBook Air M4, which weighs 3.3 pounds.
How Acer made a 16-inch laptop this light
The secret lies in its magnesium-aluminium alloy chassis, designed to keep weight low without sacrificing durability. Despite its slim build, Acer claims the laptop can withstand the wear and tear of daily travel, making it a prime pick for frequent flyers, commuters, and anyone who prioritizes portability.
Powered by AMD Ryzen AI
Under the hood, the Swift Air 16 runs on AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 Series processors, including the Ryzen AI 7 350. These chips are purpose-built for AI tasks, promising “enhanced responsiveness” and reliable performance for streaming, content creation, editing, and multitasking. Even with its ultra-slim form, the laptop packs serious computing power.
Because it’s a Copilot+ PC, the Swift Air 16 is fully integrated with Microsoft’s AI toolkit. That means access to features like Cocreator for on-device image generation, smart Q&A, and even Recall — the controversial timeline-like memory function that logs past activity. For those leaning into AI workflows, this laptop is designed to handle it natively, not just in the cloud.
Battery life that keeps up
Portability isn’t just about weight. Acer promises up to 13 hours of battery life, thanks to the Ryzen AI 300’s efficient power usage. That puts it in the same league as some of the longest-lasting ultrabooks, ensuring the Swift Air 16 won’t die midway through a workday or flight.
Display choices: IPS or AMOLED
The Swift Air 16 comes in one size but two display options. Users can choose between:
- IPS panel with a 60Hz refresh rate for everyday tasks.
- AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother visuals and richer colors.
Opting for AMOLED does bump the weight slightly to 2.43 pounds, but that’s still lighter than Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air M4. It’s a tradeoff that creative professionals and gamers might gladly make.
Pricing and availability
The Acer Swift Air 16 will officially launch in November 2025 with a starting price of €999. With its combination of portability, AI-focused performance, and flexible display options, it could become a go-to ultralight for professionals and students alike.
